Mary Jackson was the first black female engineer in NASA. She inspired young women, and older women. At that time, it was very difficult for a black women to find jobs, do anything, or go anywhere, without being told not to. Jackson helped show people that no matter who you are, what you look like, or what anybody says, you can do what you dream of doing. She wished to help women become engineers, just like herself. She changed the environment and people around her because back then, it would something that nobody really thought was possible, once they heard about it, it really changed people's thoughts about black women.
